FULL-TIME EXPERIENCED MACHINIST / GARMENT MAKER
£16 per hour (self-employed basis)
Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts (including 30-minute paid lunch)
Clapham, South London (15-minute walk from Clapham Junction)
We are looking for a highly experienced, efficient, and detail-focused machinist to join our growing clothing and swimwear brand.
This is a production-focused, in-house role based in our Clapham studio. The primary focus of this position is fulfilling daily production targets, alongside supporting the development of new collections.
This role is currently offered on a self-employed basis, with the intention to transition into an employed position as the team structure is built and stabilised.
This is not a remote role and is not a training position. We are specifically looking for someone who can confidently step in and deliver from day one.
THE ROLE:

Producing garments daily in line with set production targets

Working efficiently while maintaining a high standard of finish

Confident use of industrial sewing machines (overlocker, coverstitch, straight stitch)

Constructing garments from start to finish with precision

Supporting sample development when required, with a core focus on production

Working with a range of fabrics including stretch, woven, and delicate materials
-
Producing both special occasion garments and swimwear to a high standard

Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient workspace
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Confident troubleshooting and resolving machine issues independently (including tension, threading, stitch faults, and general setup)

Able to identify the cause of faults quickly and keep production running efficiently

Takes responsibility for maintaining machines and keeping them in good working condition

Highly skilled and knowledgeable in the use of industrial sewing machines
REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 5+ years of professional, hands-on experience in a production or manufacturing environment

Proven experience with both swimwear and special occasion garments is essential

Confident using industrial sewing machines and able to work independently

Experience using Jack industrial machines is required

Strong understanding of garment construction and fabric handling

Ability to work efficiently and meet daily production targets

Reliable, organised, and detail-focused

This role is fully in-house at our Clapham studio, applications for remote work will not be considered

This position is offered on a self-employed basis initially, with the goal of transitioning to employment as the team grows

This role is not suitable for students, recent graduates, or those still in training

You must have the legal right to work in the UK and be able to provide valid documentation

Although this role is currently self-employed, we are looking for someone who is consistent, reliable, and committed to the role long term

The move to employed positions and progression into more senior roles will depend on building a strong and dependable team

You must be able to commit to the full 40 hours per week. This role requires consistent availability and is not suitable for those unable to meet these hours
